Ziggo is a cable operator in the Netherlands, largest according to Wikipedia. The company recently started providing WiFi HotSpot service. The service is build on a very nice and interesting idea. In order to use the service, a subscriber must turn it on via the self service portal. Then the modem is rebooted remotely, turning on the WiFi access point independent to your home WiFi settings. Although it uses the same antenna, the modem is capable of serving two networks separately. It is said that your bandwidth is not shared with this service. Once you turn on the service via the portal, you can use the WiFi access in the covered areas, i.e. other subscribers’ modems serving as a WiFi Hotspot.
